What is the origin of the name "Rincon de la Vieja"?
(Old lady's corner)
Legend has it that long ago, a princess named Curabanda fell in love with the chief of the neighboring enemy tribe. When the girl's father became aware of this relationship, he captured Mixcoac (the chief of the enemy tribe) and threw him into the volcano's crater. Curabanda, devastated by the suffering and pregnant with Mixcoac, decided after the baby's birth to throw him into the volcano's crater so that the child would be eternally with his father. For the rest of her life, Princess Curabanda lived close to the volcano and became a healer for the people around her. People who knew her called her home "The Old Woman's Corner".
