Have you heard of the Corcovado Foundation?

The Corcovado Foundation was created by activists dedicated to preserving the environment. The well-being of local populations and the protection of natural environments are the DNA of this association. Morpho Evasions presents some of their projects.

ACTIONS AND PROJECTS OF THE CORCOVADO FOUNDATION

Corcovado fundation project

Sea turtle conservation in Playa Hermosa-Punta National Wildlife Refuge Mala:

  • 682 beach activities registered
  • 213 nests were moved to the hatchery, with a total of 19,764 sea turtle eggs.
  • To date, over 16,288 newborns have been released.
  • Nursery hatching success is 86 %
 

Education for sustainable development :

  • 43 activities were carried out with environmental groups, involving 50 children from 5 environmental groups.
  • An end-of-year trip was made to the archaeological sites of the round stone spheres in Sierpe with children from the Almirante de Banegas school. Around thirty children took part.
  • With the environmental groups, a total of 24 different themes were developed, covering 3 areas:
 

Bio-literacy :

Various organisms that make up the biodiversity of the Osa peninsula are studied, for example: primates, sea turtles, felines, toucans, snakes, among others.  

Art workshops and experiments:

Tortuga fundacion corcovado During these sessions, handicrafts are made from recyclable materials such as cardboard, plastic bottles and egg cartons, among others. Experiments such as the creation of biodegradable modelling clay, rainbows and the water cycle have also been developed.  

Leisure and physical activity :

During these sessions, walks were carried out in the community to search for certain elements of biodiversity, environmental gatherings, yoga classes and soccer training sessions were organized.  

Regenerative agriculture :

  •  For this important program, which benefits families in the Drake Bay communities, 3 virtual lectures were given on bio-organisms, banana seeds and rings, transplants and layers.
  •  4 hands-on visits were carried out, with an average attendance of 35 people, to put into practice all that had been learned at the conferences and workshops.

Junior ranger :

  •  7 wildlife monitoring activities in Corcovado National Park and training with young people aged 13 to 16 from the Los Planes community.

Reforestation :

  •  A total of 377 trees were planted on 5 local farms, including 4 private farms and 1 state farm.
  •  One COVIRENA, 4 community foresters, 11 children from local communities and 20 volunteers took part in the planting.

Animal welfare :

  •  709 kg of food for dogs and cats were distributed - 717 dogs from 65 families benefited from these food deliveries
  •  Dogs and cats were castrated, for a total of 36 animals.

Others :

Students Corcovado Foundation
  •  1 analog forestry workshop was organized with 8 participantsDevelopment of economic opportunities to promote forest preservation in the area of influence of the Parque Internacional de la Amistad
  •  A virtual activity to promote the tourist activities of the 11 beneficiary companies to 44 tourist agencies and intermediaries (17 during the event and 27 by videoconference).
  •  16 sessions of technical assistance, and 10 months of personalized attention, assisting 7 organizations benefiting from the project, improving their operations, administrative management, marketing and sales.
  •  Training on tourism products for 11 organizations benefiting from the project, generating better-structured products with higher quality in their operations.
  •  A feasibility study to support the TURIBRUS R.L. cooperative in obtaining authorization to use the trails in La Amistad International Park, Pittier sector.
  •  11 companies with improvements in their social networks that enable better marketing and promotion of their products on local and national markets.
  •  A website promoting the 11 tourism businesses in the communities surrounding the PILA as a tourist destination.
  •  10 certified local guides as customized courses for the project.
