Health protocols for the reopening of Costa Rica's airports

While the official opening of Juan Santa Maria airport (Alajuela/ San José) and Daniel Oduber (Liberia) is scheduled for the 1ster August, an official video has just been released. This video summarizes the main actions taken to minimize the risk of contagion and virus transmission.

What actions are Costa Rica's airports taking?

On arrival in Costa Rica

First of all, you need to know that wearing a mask is currently compulsory from the moment you enter your departure airport until you leave your destination airport. Preventive measures against COVID-19 at airports :
  • Port du mask mandatory
  • Free wifi allowing migration forms to be filled out digitally
  • Disinfectant floor mats
  • Temperature measurement using thermal imaging cameras
  • Distribution substation hydroalcoholic gel
  • Information panels with instructions on the measures to be taken
  • Physical distance 1.8 metres between each person. Visual signs on the ground
  • Digital epidemiological form
  • Use of glovesof masks and visors at controls
  • Sanitary protocols in retail outlets and Duty Free
  • Cleaning and disinfection surfaces and carts
  • Staff helping to baggage handling on the conveyor belt

Please note that you can only enter the airport departure area if you are wearing a mask. Access to the departure area is strictly reserved for travelers with their tickets. Hydrological gel distribution stations are available before entering the airport. You must also respect the physical distance of 1.8 meters. The same sanitary measures will be applied as on arrival:
