Day 5: Discovering Cahuita National Park

Cahuita National Park

Entrance to Cahuita National Park After the previous day's excitement at the Bribris, we decided to visit Cahuita National Park this morning. This park has a number of special features, including being home to many sloths. Raccoons and coatis are also a common sight. Raccoon in Costa Rica Access is also rather special: no ticket, just a voluntary donation. It is usually recommended to donate between 10 and 15$ per person. Profits are donated to an association responsible for park maintenance. Once the donation has been made, we enter the park, which is located on the beach. We are told that a small horned viper is hiding behind a tree. This bright yellow snake is quite common in the area. Fortunately, it's very quiet and prefers to hide so as not to be bothered. Ginger flower Cahuita National Park is splendid, with a tree-protected path running along the coast. It allows you to observe numerous animal species while being only 10 meters from the beach. For children, it's a quiet, safe park. The proximity of the beach and the rich fauna make it a favorite. family trip to costa rica children in costa rica Cahuita National Park

We spotted three sloths that day, a raccoon, numerous lizards, black-headed hartebeests and countless crabs. A few snakes and many geckos are a common sight. Caribbean gastronomy

Before getting back in the car, we eat in Cahuita. There are many small, typical restaurants, very Caribbean. We order Rice and Beans, rice with black beans cooked in coconut milk. This dish is accompanied by chicken, also cooked with coconut. Delicious, and the kids are licking their fingers. With our stomachs stretched taut, we get back in the car and head north: IT'S THE NORTH! The road takes us almost 4h00, because despite its good condition, the many impressive and imposing American trailer trucks slow down our average speed considerably. It's late afternoon when we arrive in La Fortuna, the light is scarce and we're staying at the Villa Terraza Colonial. A magnificent house ideal for families. 4 bedrooms, toys for children, large garden. There's everything you need for washing clothes and cooking. And it's all less than 5 minutes from downtown La Fortuna: in short, a dream for a family trip. Time to do the shopping for the evening and the next morning, the children will appreciate this return to the breakfast routine.
