As the global health situation evolves, so do the rules governing admission to Costa Rica.<\/p>\n

Until recently, in order to discover Costa Rica, travelers had to take out local insurance issued by the Costa Rican National Insurance Institute (INS).<\/p>\n

Given the high cost of this insurance and the complexity of obtaining it, several improvements have been made.<\/p>\n

Let's take stock on 09\/11\/2020.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What are the Costa Rican entry requirements for tourists and non-resident travellers?<\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. Fill in the digita form<\/strong>l accessible via this link: https:\/\/salud.go.cr\/<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It is currently available in English and French.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Have completed the RT-PCR test 72 h<\/strong> before departure.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Please note: it must absolutely be registered in English: COVID NEGATIVE<\/strong>. No need to translate the whole document.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Have a travel insurance<\/strong> which covers up to 2000$ of accommodation and medical expenses in the event of detection of COVID-19 during your trip.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        The good news is that international insurances are now accepted under these conditions 3 conditions\u00a0<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • Validity of insurance during travel dates<\/li>\n
        • Coverage of medical expenses in the event of illness related to pandemic Covid-19 for at least 50,000$<\/li>\n
        • Minimum coverage of USD 2,000 for prolonged accommodation due to pandemic illness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          At present, the major insurance companies are working on a specific offer for Costa Rica at a lower cost.<\/p>\n

          The two other insurances currently accepted are :<\/p>\n

          After agreeing to the general terms, you will be asked to provide information about your identity and your international flight.<\/p>\n

          For the border section, we recommend choosing the \"Other\" option.<\/p>\n

          For the hotels on your trip, there's no need to fill in every address. The first hotel on your arrival will suffice.<\/p>\n

          4e<\/sup> stage: COVID-19 part and insurance<\/h4>\n

          A QR code will then be created. This QR code must be presented to the migration authorities.<\/p>\n

          This QR is actually a line of code. In the example below, it's the line beginning with 5f5b6...<\/p>\n

          This is your file code, which will be used by airport agents.<\/p>\n

          Confirmation<\/h3>\n

          Your request confirmation will be in the format below.<\/p>\n

          Warning: if the QR code is GREEN<\/strong>your application has been validated by the Direcction G\u00e9n\u00e9rale d'immigration<\/p>\n

          If the code is VIOLET,<\/strong> international travel insurance must be validated manually by officials of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute.<\/p>\n

          If the QR code is RED, <\/strong>the application is not accepted. In this case, you will need to re-submit the application with the correct documents.<\/p>\n
