Have you just left France's revolutionary atmosphere and its batch of news focused entirely on the gilets jaunes? Have you just arrived in Costa Rica<\/strong> to take a deep breath of fresh air and finally get in touch with nature?<\/p>\n

And now, as soon as you leave the airport, you're wondering: is it persistence of vision, or am I still seeing yellow vests<\/strong> everywhere.<\/p>\n

Well, yes, they're here! As David Vincent said in The Invaders.<\/p>\n

But who are these Costa Rican yellow vests?<\/h2>\n

They're actually guachiman, derived from the English watch man. You'll find them in almost every town and downtown street in Costa Rica. They're there to watch your car as you park.<\/p>\n

For a fee, they'll keep an eye on the street where you park. It's customary to pay a few colones, but Costa Ricans never pay more than 1,000 colones, as this service is repeated all day and can be expensive. You'll easily recognize them by their yellow vests and truncheons (often worn on their belts).<\/p>\n

So if you come across a Costa Rican yellow vest, don't honk the horn to give him your political support, he won't understand.<\/p>\n
